It's a shame tonight's game wasn't televised. Yankee pitching struck out 11 Tigers with nine of the 11 coming from Hiroki Kuroda (5) and Michael Pineda (4). And speaking of Pineda, he had a strong debut. According to tweets I was seeing from people who were at the game, he was hitting 91-93 on the gun and his slider was around 80-82. He even struck out Miguel Cabrera on four pitches in his second inning of work.
Kuroda also pitched a strong two and 2/3 innings - he only gave up one hit to go along with those five strikeouts. He was removed from the game because he reached his pitch count.
Former Yankee Joba Chamberlain pitched an eventful, yet scoreless seventh inning for the Tigers.
And the Yankees won the game after Zelous Wheeler, who has my second favorite name behind Zoilo Almonte (ain't nothing but a Z thing, baby), hit a one-out single, which was followed by Francisco Cervelli single in the next at-bat - Wheeler moved to third and then he scored when reliever Tiger's Luis Marte balked with Jose Gil at the plate.
