As Mark Feinsand tweeted a little while ago, today will be Derek Jeter's final game at George M. Steinbrenner Field and there will be a ceremony at 12:55 p.m. to mark the occasion. It's going to be the first in a bunch of final moments and ceremonies for Jeter in 2014. It's also the final Spring Training game for the Yankees. Next up, Opening Day in Houston!
Here's your Yankee lineup: Ellsbury CF Jeter SS Beltran DH McCann C Teixeira 1B Soriano RF Gardner LF Roberts 2B Johnson 3B
Hmmm Gardner 7th? McCann clean up? Jeter still at two? Eh, it's still Spring Training.
As I was perusing through some links this morning, I came across this blurb from Chad Jennings on the Lohud Yankees Blog:
Dean Anna is getting a taste of what it’s like to be Jeter’s teammate. This morning, Jeter was giving Anna a hard time about NCAA Tournament picks. It was both merciless and hilarious. Jeter’s good at that sort of thing, treating new players and young players like they’re just one of the guys. It’s unavoidable that he’s Derek Jeter and they’re not, but he manages to use that status to actually make things more comfortable, not less comfortable.
1) Jeter is hilarious. 2) Jennings is one of the best guys on the Yankees' beat and you should be following him on Twitter and you should read his blog daily.
Here's the Marlins' lineup:
Yelich DH Hechavarria SS Stanton RF Jones 1B Ozuna CF Dietrich DH McGehee 3B Johnson LF Mathis C
One last thing that's not exactly Yankee related, at least not for 2014 but Jordan Bastian who covers the Indians wrote a blog about Jason Giambi's infamous gold thong. Apparently Nick Swisher wore a replica during the 2009 World Series and Derek Jeter admitted to wearing it in 2008. I somehow missed the original Jeter story from the Daily News but couldn't stop laughing picturing Jeter wearing that thing over his shorts. Here's the link to the story. Enjoy.
Today's game is on YES.
And go Yankees.
[The weather is a little iffy in Tampa right now. The forecast calls for storms and the tarp was placed onto the field. We'll update as necessary - Stacey]
UPDATE: First pitch 1:15 p.m. UPDATE 1:15 P.M.: The game has been called off due to the fact that it looks like the end of the world down in Tampa and there would be no way to get the game in.
WE'RE THAT MUCH CLOSER TO REAL BASEBALL NOW, PEOPLE!
