Quick Hit: Gary Sanchez 2nd Place AL Rookie of the Year

Gary Sanchez did not win Rookie of the Year. Michael Fulmer of the Tigers did. Sanchez received four first-place votes and twenty-three second-place votes for the award.

The 2nd place showing is the highest for a Yankee since Robinson Cano's 2005 rookie season, where he also placed second. Other previous Yankee ROY candidates or winners include: Derek Jeter (1st in 1996), Dellin Betances and Masahiro Tanaka (3rd and 5th in 2014), Ivan Nova (4th in 2011), Hideki Matsui (2nd in 2003), and Alfonso Soriano (3rd in 2001). Not bad company for Sanchez.

While it sucks that Sanchez got Berroa'd (outvoted by a clearly inferior player long term), I guess he'll just have to make up for it by winning the 2017 AL Most Valuable Player award.
