Game 64 Recap: COL 13 NYY 10

Man, what a defensive struggle last night.  I really thought the Yankees were going to pull off the comeback when they were driving late in the game.  That 3rd down screen pass call was terrible, but at the end of the day you need your kicker to make a 38-yard field goal.  If he hits that and this one goes to OT, no doubt in my mind the Yankees win the game.

- Nathan Eovaldi was horrible, thus continuing a troubling trend that started right around the time we all agreed that he had figured it out, put it all together, taken the next step, and proven himself worthy of an extension.  He gave up 6 earned runs on 8 hits in just 4 innings, and he's now given up 16 runs in 14.2 IP over his last 3 starts.

- The Yankees found themselves down 6-0 early and 12-3 late, so they were doing a lot of digging all night.  They made the game slightly interesting at the end when came storming back with a 7-run 8th inning.  12 batters came to the plate that inning, 8 of them got hits, all of the hits were singles.  Just the old Yankee power and patience at work.

- Rob Refsnyder singled twice in the 8th and led the Yankee lineup with 3 hits.  They also got 2-hit nights from Ellsbury, Castro, Headley, Didi, and Aaron Hicks.

- As bad as Eovaldi was, Kirby Yates and Richard Bleier were equally bad in relief.  The Rockies tacked on 6 runs on 6 hits in 2 innings against those bums.  The non-Chapillances relievers have a combined ERA approaching 5 this season.  That's a problem.

- Some of that stink rubbed off on Andrew Miller, who gave up a solo shot in the bottom of the 8th for the final Colorado run.

- Carlos Beltran didn't play after waking up with soreness in his knee yesterday and it doesn't sound like he's going to play today.  That's also a problem.
