Weekend Recap: Yankees-Twins

Friday Night- NYY 8 MIN 2

The Yankees beat up on Minnesota starter Pat Dean, putting 4 runs on the board in the top of the 1st and 3 more in the 3rd to build a sizable lead.  Carlos Beltran hit his 17th homer of the season and paced the offense with 3 hits while Masahiro Tanaka tossed 8 innings of 1-run ball to make that big early lead stand up.

Saturday- NYY 7 MIN 6

This game was much tougher than the first 2 of the series.  New York was down 4-0 after 6 innings as Michael Pineda's 2-strike and 2-out problems resurfaced in his 5.1 innings of work.  But the offense struck back quickly with a pair of 2-run home runs, the first from Alex Rodriguez in the top of the 7th and the second from Beltran in the 8th.  The Yanks took the lead in the 9th on a 2-run single by Jacoby Ellsbury and sac fly by Brett Gardner, and that extra run ended up making the difference when Aroldis Chapman served up 2 solo homers to the Twins in the 9th.

Sunday- MIN 7 NYY 4

The Twins spoiled the sweep chance yesterday with a tough comeback win against Nathan Eovaldi.  The Yankees took an early 2-0 lead on Brian McCann's solo homer in the 2nd and an A-Rod RBI single, but they could never add on against Ervin Santana and left the door open for the comeback.  A 4-run bottom of the 6th that was almost entirely bloop singles and seeing eye grounders marred Eovaldi's day and the Yankees' road trip.  Instead of heading home for today's off-day 4-2, they finished a disappointing 3-3.
