2019 MLB Winter Meetings: Day Four/Final Day Thread – Gardner is Back! (and the Rule 5 Draft)

This is the fourth day of our coverage on the MLB Winter Meetings. Click here to see coverage from Day One, and here for coverage from Day Two, and here for coverage from Day Three, and here from Day Four.

Today is the last day of the Winter Meetings, with the only thing on the schedule being the Rule 5 draft happening this morning at 9:00 AM (or 12:00 PM EST).

Yesterday brought Anthony Rendon to the Angels, and plenty of Scott Boras clients are still available (Ryu, Keuchel, Castellanos).

That being said, let’s get into it!

MLB Signings:

9:01 AM – The NY Mets have arrived at a deal with RHP Rick Porcello, pending a physical. [Ken Rosenthal]

9:14 AM – The deal is for 1-Year, $10 Million. Hopes to reset trade value going into 2020. [Jon Heyman]

11:07 AM – The NY Yankees and OF Brett Gardner are in agreement on a 1-Year, $12.5 Million deal. Has an option for a second year. [George A. King III]

11:12 AM – Updated contract figures on Brett Garnder deal: $10 Million in 2020 ($2 Million signing bonus, $8 Million salary), $10 Million club option in 2021 with a $2.5 Million buy-out. [Joel Sherman]

11:15 AM – Obviously this deal was the most expected move to be made this offseason. With CC, Didi, and potentially Romine/Betances gone his leadership is 100% worthwhile. [Joel Sherman]

12:24 PM – The Miami Marlins have agreed to a contract with reliever Yimi Garcia, pending a physical. [Joel Sherman]

12:26 PM – The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a deal with former-Yankee catcher Austin Romine, worth about $4 Million, pending physical. [Jason Beck]

3:46 PM – The Boston Red Sox agree to a deal with INF Jose Peraza. [Robert Murray]

3:47 PM – Contract is close to $3 Million plus incentives. [Jon Heyman]

Completed Trades:

2:00 PM – The SD Padres have sent the Oakland Athletics OF Buddy Reed to complete prior trade with INF Jurikson Profar. [San Diego Padres Twitter]

MiLB Signings:

TBA

Rumors/Speculations:

8:44 PM (yesterday) – Chicago Cubs GM Theo Epstein says, “Really nothing is getting close. It’s getting to the point we’re likely to head back to Chicago without anything significant done. But we’ve laid some foundation for some discussions that can spill into next week.” [Mark Gonzales]

11:33 PM (yesterday) – The Angels remain interested in the free agent catching market: Jason Castro, Martin Maldonado, and Robinson Chirinos. [Jon Morosi]

12:04 AM – The Angels are currently in talks with the Cleveland Indians on acquiring RHP Corey Kluber, but not close to being done, just talking. [Jeff Fletcher]

12:08 AM – The LA Dodgers ultimately didn’t offer 3B Anthony Rendon a contract offer. Sensed he wasn’t going to them anyway. [Jorge Castillo]

3:09 AM – The Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds showing interest in INF Nick Castellanos. Seen as one of the best bats still on free agent market. [Jon Morosi]

9:48 AM – After signing of Porcello, NY Mets looking to offload some contracts, likely to be Jed Lowrie contract (~$9M). [Jon Heyman]

10:01 AM – The NY Mets are not going to be trading RHP Noah Syndergaard, even after picking up Wacha and Porcello. Wacha expected to start. [Joel Sherman]

10:13 AM – STL Cardinals have shown interest in RHP Hyun-Jin Ryu. [Jon Morosi]

10:21 AM – 3B Anthony Rendon had 7-Year offers from four different clubs before signing with LA Angels. [Bob Nightengale]

11:42 AM – It appears that the asking price for 3B Josh Donaldson has exceeded the Texas Rangers price. [Levi Weaver]

12:14 PM – The Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies in talks about left-handed hitting OF Corey Dickerson. [Jon Heyman]

12:59 PM – The LA Dodgers the most aggressive team in on Dellin Betances on a 1-Year deal. Already signed one project reliever in Treinen, if signed both and one works, seen as success. [Joel Sherman]

2:22 PM – The STL Cardinals met with the representatives for both Hyun-Jin Ryu and Dallas Keuchel this past week. [Jon Morosi]

2:25 PM – 3B Miguel Andujar getting a lot of interest on the trade market, but interested teams want to see how he does in Spring Training first. Currently a big risk due to surgery last season. [Dan Federico]

3:51 PM – Multiple teams willing to go a fourth year for 3B Josh Donaldson. [Jim Bowden]

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
