July wasn't a great month, but the Yankees are still holding onto the top spot in the AL East. This is how they're each playing:
The Yankees had their first stretch of the season in which they appeared to stumble a bit. That said, they are still having a historically significant year.
As the weather heats up, their offense has as well. In case you couldn’t tell who was their leader, Aaron Judge added 1.9 WAR over the past 20 or so games.
In their last 20 games they had 6 days off. In the next 20, they only have 2. Actually it’s 25 games in 27 days.
Recent injuries to Stanton and King have thinned their depth. They recently traded for Andrew Benintendi, but the expanded playoffs has created an unbalance between buyers and sellers creating an increase in costs for the buyers.
Kiner Falefa was brought in to be a stopgap until Oswald Peraza was ready. His play at AAA clearly shows that he is.
Other players that could possibly see a promotion to the Bronx in the cards include Ken Waldichuk, Ben Rortvedt, Estevan Florial, and Greg Weissert.
Players with a short leash could include Joey Gallo, Aroldis Chapman, Marwin Gonzalez, and Kyle Higashioka.
players off the leash include Hayden Wesneski
while Yankee fans will learn the identity of Scott Effross

and Peraza might indeed be promoted to someplace other than the Bronx
