MORNING DISCUSSIONS:

Ethan's Trade Deadline Predictions:

News, rumors, and more keeps coming in as I'm finishing up this article to go live at 10:00 AM, but I wanted to quickly put out some predictions that I have for today's trade deadline: (Last year I went 2 for 4 with my predictions, so I'm aiming to do so again this year.)

1) The Yankees will make a trade for a catcher today. My highest of hopes are that they manage to swing a deal for Adley Rutschman, which I think they could pull off.

2) The Yankees will make a trade for an outfielder today. This will be a move a la Austin Slater last year, or essentially a serviceable 4th outfielder/pinch hit option for a playoff run.

3) The Yankees will trade for another relief pitcher, after trading away Camilo Doval, Yovanny Cruz, and Jake Bird in the recent days. Rumors about players like Mason Miller and Adrian Morejon from the Padres could be the makings of a gigantic trade package.

4) The Yankees will not make another upgrade in the infield, after the Luis Garcia Jr. trade.

MLBTR Top 50 Trade Candidate List:

Right before 10:00 AM, moves were happening like crazy. In the half hour since, time is moving slowly. Luckily, MLB Trade Rumors has posted a Top 50 trade candidate list, which you can find here.

Two players I see mentioned on the list, but who I have heard zero rumblings about, are Lars Nootbaar and Mickey Moniak. Either of them would be perfect as the "4th outfielder" type of guy, with the benefit of an extra season of control. Both players can play anywhere in the outfield, so it allows the trading of Jones or Dominguez in a bigger move, as well as flexibility when Bellinger and Judge return.

Though, if the Yankees are going to upgrade in the outfield, a two-player package around Taylor Ward and Adley Rutschman is the best option out there to help fix two needed holes.

Coming Soon:

This 1:45 PM update will be the last for this morning post.

Check back at 2:00 PM for the afternoon trade deadline thread!

i said it multiple times, Rutschman was not someone I was wanting to overpay for. YES, some players I would overpay for. that is one of the main methods that BC uses to avoid making any major move. he much too often says all the prices were too high. sometimes you MUST overpay!! you can NOT hope or expect to win every trade.

Mason Miller, Trout, Alvarez, Buxton, Seager are examples of guys I would be happy to have BC overpay for!!

Rutschman was not one of those.

but now that the deal is supposedly sitting on go and Boston is apparently twiddling their thumbs, I would not hate it if BC made a slight overpay to jump in and…

if we end up not getting any of the bigger / more expensive pieces (Miller, Goodman, etc...) word is that TX is listening on EVERYONE

obviously I have been screaming for Seager all year, yet another lefty bat of course. I am having doubts BC is thinking of anything like that

my thought- if BC is sitting there at the end of the day with all or most of his trade chips in his pocket and nobody left to move for, would he consider beefing up the rotation / adding depth?

I would not be even a bit disappointed if we added Eovaldi

if they were even considering Skubal, which they apparently were, there is no way to argue with…

well OBVIOUSLY I have been pushing for Trout for months now. I DO like Buxton also. the Yankees have pieces to trade and guys they were looking at are getting gone

Arraez- gone

Rutschman?? sounding like he is gone. I will be interested to see what they gave up. I am guessing they gave up the SS their #1 prospect and some good pitching

I will be happy if the Yankees did not overpay!

I am also not sold on Goodman, at least not for what CO was apparently wanting. rumors had them wanting an overpay or nothing

supposedly SDP is not trading ANY relievers

SO... what is left for the Yankees to do?

I say take a BUNCH of…
