The Yankees won! (But so did the Blue Jays.) The Yankees will have to keep putting on the pressure this weekend!
Quick Stats -
Winning Pitcher: Carlos Rodon (18-9, 3.09 ERA)
Losing Pitcher: Tyler Gilbert (4-2, 4.01 ERA)
Save: David Bednar (26)
Home Runs (Chicago): Michael A. Taylor (9)
Home Runs (New York): N/A
Big Story - The Yankees are tied, but on the losing side of a tie, with the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the American League East.
People love to say that the games that matter most are in September. They like to say that the season is a "marathon" and not a "sprint".
Right now, the Yankees are seeing why the winners of marathons don't walk a mile during the middle of the race.
The Yankees need to keep winning. They have no other option. They need to keep forcing the Blue Jays to keep winning.
Last night was their last game against the White Sox. Now, they'll have some serious games against a division rival who will be looking to play spoiler in the Orioles.
Here was the Yankees' line-up to end their 3-game weekday series against the White Sox:
---
The Game - I apologize in advance to everybody who was looking forward to reading a fun and creative game summary from me. As my most recent school year has begun, my creativity muscles have been 100% focused on work and by the time I get to 10:00 PM to write these game summaries, my juices are juiced.
So, I'm going to take it nice and easy for this morning and give you all some quick thoughts from the game last night.
The Good:
The Yankees defense had a bunch of really good moments! Off the top of my head were Anthony Volpe's good, instinctual, play in the 4th and 9th, Cody Bellinger's catch to finish the top of the 8th, and Trent Grisham being Trent Grisham.
Giancarlo Stanton collected a big hit with a go-ahead 3-RBI double in the 5th. He's been in a slump recently and he'll need to heat up for the postseason soon.
Austin Wells added an insurance run in the 7th inning with an RBI double.
Carlos Rodon pitched very well, but just got hurt on a wall scraper by Michael A. Taylor. Luckily, one bad pitch didn't cost Rodon a win as his overall performance was very good.
Luke Weaver also looked really good in his inning of work in the 7th.
David Bednar is the Yankees closer and I have complete faith in him. I'm very excited to see what he will do in his first postseason!
Bernie Williams made an appearance at the game to play the National Anthem. That's always fun and cool.
The Yankees WON! That's always a good thing!
The Bad:
The White Sox intentionally walked Aaron Judge twice. What is cool is that he now holds the American League single-season record for intentional walks. What isn't cool is that Judge isn't getting to put more distance between himself and Cal Raleigh for the MVP (non) race.
The White Sox made a pitching change in the bottom of the 8th inning...why? They're a 100 loss team, what is the point of making a change like that in the 4th to last game of the year?
The Blue Jays beat the Red Sox, keeping their lead in the AL East due to the tiebreaker.
YANKEES WIN 5-3 and SWEEP the White Sox!
KEEP IT UP YANKS!

Next Up - The Yankees will begin a 3-game weekend series tonight against the AL East bottom dweller Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx. The game set to start at 7:05 PM (EDT). The Yankees will send Will Warren (8-8, 4.35 ERA) to the mound to face Trevor Rogers (9-2, 1.35 ERA).

As this race finishes, i can't help but be reminded of August 1st 14-13 loss to the Marlins. That one sticks out. Lets hope they overcome it!
