BN: Cole and Snell Win Cy Young Awards!

Breaking News: Gerrit Cole (NYY) and Blake Snell (SDP) have been named the 2023 Cy Young Award Winner's by the BBWAA!

Votes:

Per the BBWAA, Gerrit Cole won the AL Cy Young award with all 30 1st place votes! He is the 6th AL pitcher to win unanimously (11th time in the AL) and the 6th New York Yankee!


The other unanimous AL winners were: Denny McLain (1968), Ron Guidry (1978), Roger Clemens (1986, 1998), Pedro Martinez (1999, 2000), Johan Santana (2004, 2006), and Justin Verlander (2011, 2022).


The other Yankees Cy Young Award winners were: Bob Turley (1958), Whitey Ford (1961), Sparky Lyle (1977), Ron Guidry (1978), and Roger Clemens (2001).


Gerrit Cole was the only AL pitcher named on every ballot!


The AL voting went as follows:

Per the BBWAA, Blake Snell won the Cy Young award with 28 of the 30 1st place votes. He is the 6th pitcher to win the Cy Young in the AL & NL and the 5th San Diego Padre.


Other AL & NL Cy Young Award winners were: Roger Clemens (AL: 1986, 87, 91, 97, 98, 2001; NL: 2004), Roy Halladay (AL: 2003; NL: 2010), Randy Johnson (AL: 1995; NL: 1999, 2000, 01, 02), Pedro Martinez (AL: 1999, 2000; NL: 1997), Gaylord Perry (AL: 1972; NL: 1978), and Max Scherzer (AL: 2013; NL: 2016-17).


The other Padres Cy Young award winners were: Randy Jones (1976), Gaylord Perry (1978), Mark Davis (1989), and Jake Peavy (2007).


Blake Snell was the only NL pitcher to be named on all 30 ballots.

Such a shame that in a year when a yankee wins the cy young, they missed the (expanded) playoffs.

and still both Nola and Yamamoto are more highly desired than Snell in the free agent market
