BN: BBWAA Names Hyde and Schumaker as MOY's

Breaking News: Brandon Hyde (BAL) and Skip Schumaker (MIA) have been named the 2023 MOY's by the BBWAA!

Per the BBWAA, Brandon Hyde won the AL Manager of the Year award with 27 of the 30 1st place votes. He is the 9th manager to win the award and never play in the MLB and is the 4th Oriole.


The other managers who never played in the MLB are: Buck Showalter (4x winner), Jim Leyland (3x), Joe Maddon (3x), Jack McKeon (2x), Jim Frey, John McNamara, Brian Snitker and Mike Schildt.


The other Orioles managers were: Frank Robinson (1989), Davey Johnson (1997) and Buck Showalter (2014).


The AL voting went as follows:

Per the BBWAA, Skip Schumaker won the Manager of the Year award with 8 of the 30 1st place votes. He is the 7th first-year NL manager to win the award and the 4th Marlin.


Other NL first-year managers were: Hal Lanier (HOU, 1986), Dusty Baker (SFG, 1993), Joe Girardi (MIA, 2006), Matt Williams (WSH, 2014), Dave Roberts (LAD, 2016), andTorey Lovullo (ARZ, 2017).


The other Marlins managers were: Jack McKeon (2003), Joe Girardi (2006), and Don Mattingly (2020).
