Quick Hit:

Aaron Judge has now won his third career, and second straight MVP award. Since joining the MLB in 2016, Judge has taken home a major league award in four of those seasons (3x MVP, 1 Rookie of the Year).

Aaron Judge now joins a list of 13 players to win the MVP at least three times in his career, and this all but guarantees a spot for him in Cooperstown. The only ever 3-time MVP award winners not in Cooperstown are Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, and Shohei Ohtani (who are all not yet eligible) as well as Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez (who are both not in for PED/steroid-related reasons). The other Yankees to win 3 MVP's in their career are Joe DiMaggio (1939, 1941, 1947), Yogi Berra (1951, 1954, 1955), Mickey Mantle (1956, 1957, 1962), and Alex Rodriguez (2003*, 2005, 2007). (*Note: Alex Rodriguez's 2003 MVP victory was with the Texas Rangers.)

Aaron Judge also joins a list of 19 other players to win the MVP award in consecutive seasons, and joins former Yankees Yogi Berra (1954-55), Mickey Mantle (1956-57), and Roger Maris (1960-61) in doing so.

This is also the 23rd MVP award won by a New York Yankee. The list is as follows:

  • Lou Gehrig (1936)

  • Joe DiMaggio (1939, 1941, 1947)

  • Joe Gordon (1942)

  • Spud Chandler (1943)

  • Phil Rizzuto (1950)

  • Yogi Berra (1951, 1954, 1955)

  • Mickey Mantle (1956, 1957, 1962)

  • Roger Maris (1960, 1961)

  • Elston Howard (1963)

  • Thurman Munson (1976)

  • Don Mattingly (1985),

  • Alex Rodriguez (2005, 2007), and

  • Aaron Judge (2022, 2024, 2025)

Quick Hit:

Shohei Ohtani has now won his third straight MVP, and second straight NL MVP with his fourth career MVP victory. Since joining the MLB in 2018, over eight seasons, Shohei Ohtani has won an MVP in half of them. If it wasn't clear already, once Ohtani plays in his first game in 2027 (his 10th season), he's guaranteed a plaque in Cooperstown.

Shohei Ohtani previously won the AL MVP in 2021 and 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels, as well as the 2024 NL MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Along with the 2025 victory, all four of Shohei Ohtani's victories have been unanimous.

Shohei Ohtani now sits second all-time in MVP victories (4) and consecutive MVP awards (3), sitting behind only Barry Bonds for both (7; 1990, 1992-1993, 2001-2004, and 4; 2001-2004, respectively), though Ohtani is the only player to win multiple MVP awards in both the AL and NL. The only other player to even win the award in each league was Frank Robinson in 1961 (Cincinnati Reds) and 1966 (Baltimore Orioles).

Additionally, Shohei Ohtani is the only player in MLB history to win the MVP award unanimously more than once. (Although, he had already set that record in 2023 with his second award.)

This is the 10th ever unanimous NL MVP victory, and the 19th time a player has won the MVP award in consecutive seasons.

The correct decision.

Hopefully this ends the anti-Yankees narrative once and for all.

There is, at a minimum, a material and substantial number of individuals who vote for various honors and awards who harbor an anti-Yankee bias. That some overcome that bias is great; it doesn't mean the bias doesn't exist.

Correct decision. Cal Raleigh had a great year but Judge led the MAJORS in many categories. In my mind there was no question. I think the thing that stands out in my mind is that Judge individually received more intentional walks than all the other teams. So whom did pitchers not want to face?

I think Judge batted 3rd against LHSP. IIRC, Goldschmidt led off instead of Grisham, with Bellinger hitting second. Against righties, it ended up with Grisham leading off, then Judge, then Bellinger (in most games, that is).
