Breaking News: Bo Bichette has signed a 3-Year/$126 Million deal with the New York Mets. More inside...
Super Quick Thoughts:
I have to type these thoughts quickly, as I am on my lunch break, so please bear with me as my thoughts are very much "first thing that comes to mind"
The Yankees are SITTING on their hands and making minor moves, and seem unwilling to budge from this position as stars are signing deals.
Spring Training isn't that far away, and the Yankees have done very little to make this team better than it was last year. They are going to be banking on the "mystery" of the playoffs yet again...
It appears the Yankees are just going to wait it out for Cody Bellinger. This is a terrible strategy in terms of negotiation. The Yankees SHOULD be more aggressive. Say somethin like, "Here is our best offer. If you don't like it, we're going somewhere else." And then, if that's not good enough, actually move on. Actions are louder than words.
With Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette signing shorter term deals, this will be a very interesting development moving forward for the future of free agent contracts. And, I don't think this is to the Yankees benefit, with how they currently conduct operations and signings.
DJ LeMahieu was given extra years to lower his AAV. There is a shift towards fewer years and higher AAV. The former strategy sets a team up for long-term failure. The later strategy allows teams to move on quicker and readapt faster when the plan doesn't work.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are winners. Good on them.
The New York Mets WANT to be winners. Good on them.
The New York Yankees only want to make it to the playoffs. That's shameful for this historic franchise.
With Bichette off the table (to be completely fair, I wasn't enamored with him anyway), the Yankees must find a shortstop for 2026 elsewhere. Recently there were rumors about Nico Hoerner. PLEASE! He'd be a perfect fit for the Yankees, and it wouldn't require moving on from Jazz Chisholm. That duo would be great defensively and compliment each other well offensively for the Yankees.
Anthony Volpe is NOT the option. I like him, but he's not the x-factor people were hoping for.
It's January 16th...not much time to go...let's see what happens.
