Breaking News: Top Prospect, Outfielder, Spencer Jones is being called up to meet the Yankees in Milwaukee (and other news)!

Breaking News Tweets:

A Quick Recap:

How quickly the tides start to change and the team itself starts to look very different. Here's a quick recap of everything that has led us to Spencer Jones and Kervin Castro:

  • On April 22nd, Ryan Weathers was placed on the paternity list (congrats, Ryan!) and the Yankees called up Jake Bird.

  • On April 24th, Giancarlo Stanton suffered a right calf strain while running the bases.

  • On April 25th, Angel Chivilli was placed on the 15-Day IL (retroactive to April 23rd) with shoulder discomfort, this opened up a space on the roster for...

  • Ryan Weathers. (We'll come back to this in a bit.)

  • On April 27th, Luis Gil was sent down to Triple-A based on performance.

  • This same day, the Yankees brought Jasson Dominguez back to the MLB roster. (We'll also come back to this in a bit.

  • On April 28th, Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-Day IL (retroactive to April 25th), this opened up space on the roster for...

  • Max Schuemann.

  • On April 29th, the Yankees released Randal Grichuk (again, the right call).

  • This opened up space for prospect Elmer Rodriguez to get his MLB debut as a starter.

  • On May 3rd, Ben Rice was injured on the left hand during the game. He has been moved full-time to the bench since then, but has not been placed on the IL (yet).

  • On May 4th, the Yankees made the tough (but correct) choice to leave Anthony Volpe in the minors to continue to progress post-injury.

  • On May 6th, Elmer Rodriguez was sent back down to the minors for,

  • Yerry de los Santos, who was sent down on May 7th for,

  • Brendan Beck (to make his MLB debut), who needed to come up because Ryan Weathers was under the weather (pun intended) and his start was skipped, but Beck will be sent down on May 8th for,

  • Kervin Castro.

  • Meanwhile, On May 7th, Jasson Dominguez was hurt in the outfield, which will result in an IL stint for him starting on May 8th, likely for a concussion and/or shoulder discomfort, thus making room for...

  • Spencer Jones.

So much for a "quick" recap.

Spencer Jones Stats (2026):

Here is a quick stat-line for Spencer Jones (so far) in 2026 (all at Triple-A):

33 Games with 142 PA's and 120 AB's

.258/.366/.592 Triple-Slash with a .958 OPS

31 Hits, 7 Doubles, 11 Home Runs, 25 Runs Scored, and 41 RBI's

18 Walks and 46 Strikeouts

7 Stolen Bases to 2 times Caught Stealing

He's a former consensus Top-100 prospect in the game, and has been one of the Yankees Top-5 prospects for the past few seasons. He now gets a chance, in a starting role, to prove himself.

You bring him to do what?...... sit, DH or play in OF... I'm sure Yankees have a plan or could there be a upcoming trade in the works?

Darn-it! Now I HAVE to watch tonight's game. Jones in his debut vs Misiorowski is must see action. Might be a fun game tonight. Given that Jones does rip RHP, anything can happen tonight folks.

You weren't already geeked for Max vs Mis? I was and am. SpeJo's debut is just the cherry on the sundae (or Fridae, perhaps).

When I watch Spencer Jones, I see more Josh Hamilton than Aaron Judge.

And who does Spencer Jones get to face for his MLB debut? Fireballer RHP Jacob Misiorowski. Yes indeedy, you ain't in Worcester anymore Mr. Jones,

Josh Hamilton averaged 4.4 WAR/162 games, including leading MLB in 2010. I'd take that from Jones (and Jones presumably doesn't have an addiction problem).

Great quote by Heyman "Jones, a rare power/speed dynamo, brings big-time tools to a team more tooled-up than an Ace Hardware megastore. That’s nice. But the promotion also is justice, which is important, too. Jones, who turns 25 next week, already spent nearly as much time in Scranton as Michael Scott on “The Office.”

the Yankees will be greatly improved by having Jones be the regular right-fielder

I can't fault Judge's effort, but having real power hitter in RF will make a difference.

question is whether Jones or Dominguez is more likely to be able to succeed Grisham as the CFer.

I worry that Jones is being showcased under conditions that might not show him at his best.

I hope he does really well.

(beyond all else, I'm a fan of his name.)

and I also hope that we all get to watch him succeed
