Breaking News: The Yankees have acquired RHP Angel Chivilli from the Colorado Rockies for T.J. Rumfield.

Quick Stats:

Angel Chivilli:

Quick Thoughts:

Welp...the bell just rang. I have no time for quick thoughts.

Discuss below.

It's a trade.

It's an arm.

Rumfield was blocked at 1B by Rice anyway.

Apparently, the Yankees also want to bring by Goldschmidt...

interest in Goldy is a good idea. I said it a thousand times last year. IF Goldy is willing to come back in a lesser role he could be very very valuable. this team needs RH platoon bats. he offers that in a big way

plus great defense and an amazing clubhouse / chemistry guy

everything I have seen sounds like Goldy is willing to take a lesser role and a not huge dollar contract.

Rumfield was never looked at as a serious option at 1B by the Yankees. He was nothing more than extremely deep depth and they were never going to give him a shot. They don't like guys that can actually put the bat on the ball and hit for average. What the Yankees want is lots of 3 outcome guys, even though there is zero correlation between 3 outcome baseball and winning championships. The Yankees are run in much the same way as one would assemble a fantasy baseball team. That's actually where Fishman came from. He's a fantasy league guy.

If i was going to trade rumfield, if would be for a lot more than the guy they got.

I have only three thoughts about this trade:

Good for Rumfield, who will get a real MLB chance;

The Yankees only like other club's young kids? Can't work with guys like Luis Serna (further away), or Eric Reyzrlman or Bailey Dees' both at AAA?

Don't talk to me about your great pitching program when you have yet to produce one MLB reliever. In an era where you carry eight bullpen arms, what you can find 2 guys since you took over in Warren & Schlittler for the 5 man rotation. but not even a long man for the pen?

Replying to

you seem a little off of your game today Cary. neither of Whitlock or Stephan was traded at all

Melancon? all time great? we might have different definitions here. was Mike Stanton or Randy Myers an all time great?

Melancon was a solid valuable MLB reliever. he had a six year stretch where he averaged something like 1.80 ERA and about 25 saves

he was definitely a good relieiver but I think most people are going to say he falls a very long way short of being an all time great
