Breaking News: Yankees to Sign FA 1B Anthony Rizzo

With the top free agent first baseman still available, the New York Yankees have decided to go a different direction by following the status quo by bringing back 1B Anthony Rizzo.

Details highlight a 2-Year/$32 Million deal with an opt-out after year 1.

Ethan’s Thoughts:

Anthony Rizzo is a fine baseball player. Anthony Rizzo will continue to be a fine Yankees first baseman. Anthony Rizzo seems to be a really nice guy, and a player who is easy to root for.

In no way is what I am about to say to disparage Anthony Rizzo.

The Yankees have left the #1 first baseman on the free agent market. The Yankees allowed the #1 first baseman on the trade market to pass them by. The Yankees took the cheapest, safest, and most boring option in bringing back Anthony Rizzo.

Freddie Freeman could’ve been had for nothing but money. The Yankees PRINT money. Instead, they signed a player who is on the obvious downside of his career.

I’d almost rather the Yankees not spend money than continue to make moves like this.

Anthony Rizzo is a fine player.

Freddie Freeman is a superstar.

When the Yankees started to really push the “we’re poor” narrative that came before the AMAZING free agent class of the 2018-2019 offseason. The likes of Bryce Harper and Manny Machado we’re available and obvious fits for the Yankees.

They passed on both.

Both were and are superstars.

I’m at a loss for words.

It was so clearly going to happen that they’d bring back Rizzo.

What could’ve been.

Have fun in Los Angeles, Freddie!

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
