Game 132: Astros (66-66) vs Yankees (74-57)

1 min read

Limping to the finish: Cruz to 15 day IL (either sore elbow or embarrassment). Castro moved to 60 day IL. Stanton moved to 6,000 day IL.

Hanner to SWB!

Rodriguez called up -- for one day only?

Michael Fulmer signed to MLB contract!! The Savior!!

Can Lombard continue his streak of 4 games with an E?

There is no way Rodriquez should be allowed to pitch to Alvarez!

What has Cashman done with him because this cannot be the real Aaron Boone -- same lineup!!

Today could be the Yankees last full day in sole possession of 2nd place.

Over / Under: Yankee runs, 3.5

a good victory against mediocre Astro pitching.

the Yankees scored a buncha runs and allowed not a lot

good game for the rookie starter.

they win the next 5 games and they'll be in pretty good shape.

Boone post game just said that Fernando Cruz has a partial UCL tear and TJS is on the table. perhaps some explanation of the difficulty he has had throwing the splitter for strikes lately. also big bummer for him and yet another blow to the pitching depth

Tough news.

It seems clear then that soime of the comments made about his character and guts were way way way off base.

when our LH hitters can go 5 for 5 plus a BB vs a LHP in the 7th inning of a tie game would it be ok to think that forcing a RH hitter into the middle of the lineup might not be necessary?

literally the ONLY hitter the Houston LHP got out in the 7th was Lombard the righty. please let Lombard stay in the bottom third (preferably MOSTLY 9th and a little 8th) of the order and tell him just to do what he can do with the glove and hits are a bonus

doesn't matter that, in the instance cited, Lombard was compelled to make an out.

it's necessary to offer a bit of variety in a predominantly lefty line-up.

Lombard has received a lengthy education in the craft of baseball and seems to grasp what he's required to do in various situations.

he may not succeed prodigiously as a middle of the order hitter, but he is unlikely to be crushed under pressure.

expecting him to aucceed as a middle of the order guy is a huge ask for a such a young rookie and I expect that the return of Judge will ease some of the urgency that caused the coaching staff to turn to Lombard as the 5th hitter,

but…

a person could be starting to think that Garcia is starting to be quite happy hitting baseballs in Yankee stadium

agreed if he can be similar to Hill it would be valuable. if he can pull off a Blackburn style transformation... well that would be a really nice gift for us poor, long suffering Yankee fans))
