According to the rules, he's out.


OK, it's against the Yankees so the rule is disregarded. Ball only has to be in the glove not in the back of the glove, as long as the catch is made.

the ball was quite near Goldy's glove than the foot hit the bag,

but it had not yet entered the glove's airspace.


i dont like the rule being interpreted as not requiring the ball to touch leather, and firmly believe that the rule should properly be understood as required the fielder to touch the ball prior to the runner touching the base.


but, in any case, the foot hit the bag before the ball entered the fielder's ambit
