How do you walk a guy with a 9 run lead and two outs in the ninth?

Oh, I know, you do it because you suck as evidenced by having been DFA'd three times this year.

you do it because, at that point, you're not worrying about the team winning.

the win has reached the point of inevitability.

you're concerned with trying to gain a strikeout in hope of convincing the manager that you have sufficient value to be allowed to hang around

because you possess but modest talent and less confidence, you pitch your way off-stage

The Yankees MUST....I repeat MUST...keep this exact lineup indefinitely. That is, as long as everyone in this exact lineup stays healthy. This is one high-scoring lineup when they use it.

This PRECISE Yankee lineup, or BATTING ORDER is what I was actually referring to.......with Alex Verdugo in the cleanup spot, batting behind Aaron Judge and ahead of Giancarlo Stanton.......scored 15 runs, then another 15 runs, and now 10 runs. Far better than any other BATTING ORDER the Yankees have tried at any time this season. It's been am extremely high scoring batting order....3 times now.

this is one of those games where the score would make you think that the game was closer than it really was

Sometime in 2064 or so: "Abuelo Luis, tell me again how you out-pitched the Hall-of-Famer Verlander!"

Gil is a keeper. I originally had Gil pegged to become the Yankee closer when Cole returns, pitching the 9th inning, with Clay Holmes pitching the 7th & 8th innings. But Gil is too valuable in the starting rotation, and losing him in the starting rotation, even with Cole back in it, would be too big a loss. All 5 of the Yankees current starters are pitching well enough that it will be an extremely tough decision now who leaves the rotation when Cole returns.

if they cant keep Soto

they might have a decent consolation prize

in Verdugo.

if they're fully fortunate and can keep both

they're in position to make a trade that'll net them another star player
