As losses go, this one doesn't rankle me. Their young ace was better than our young ace tonight. Get 'em tomorrow.

Nice debut by Y. Cruz. Now, if the Yankees don't take the lead, they should let him pitch the 9th. But I'm sure Boone thinks in innings instead of pitches (here, 8, 7 of them strikes).

young pitchers called up for a bit of a try-out and not in the immediate plan are there for nothing other than Bill Withers usage.

obviously, we are going to have to face yesavage multiple times a year now. WHY not simply take the bottom 1/3 or even bottom 1/2 of the strike zone out of play

I think at least the bottom 1/3

if he throws the splitter down they are not going to do anything good with it anyway. I say just assume or hope that it is going to fall below the zone for a ball

even with 2 strikes, in Judge's last AB vs yesavage he swung at multiple low pitches. with 2 strikes he swung a bit defensively at a low splitter. it dropped out of the zone and would have been a ball

at this point, he has dominated…

Replying to

hope he misses and swing only at high strikes

is not the best choice for trying to cope with a guy whose pitches are deucedly difficult to square up snd drive.

the more conventional choice is to try to tire the guy by repeatedly making weak, late contact and fouling off the really good pitches that can not be driven.

conceding the bottom of the zone to a guy who has command of it doesn't work as well as trying to frustrate his best efforts and make him throw pitch after pitch.

THEE prototypical bluejay rally!!! started with a 15mph seeing eye dribbler. NOT ONE SINGLE hard hit ball and a bunch of weakly hit balls that land out of play
