people have pointed OFTEN to the Yankee record in 1 run games, most often using it as evidence that the team is not very good

here is a counter.

the Yankees have played exactly 70 games this year. this is at least the 7th time they have won a game where they have entered the 9th inning behind or tied

so in at least 10% of all their games they have won the game when being tied or behind after 8 innings

an additional very related note, yesterday and today they won those games by MORE than one run. last week they won another such game vs Clev. by more than one run

are there more than those 3 out…

and I think the whole idea of the 1 run game conversation is to analyze how a team does in close games and games where you would face the best pitcher the opponent can offer for all nine innings

my point would be that I think looking at games that are tied after 8, or won after trailing entering the 9th, ALSO indicate how a team does in close games and in games facing the toughest possible pitching for 27 or more outs

OFTEN i would guess games decided after the 8th inning also fall into the category of a 1 run game. in the case of the 2026 Yankees, however, the team has won 3 games by more tha…

I was hoping they would not bring Bednar into the game. he has been on a heater. I feel like he has been VERY prone to giving up runs in the non save scenarios and I would not have risked changing his current momentum
