The most baseball-centric thing in terms of coaching in this entire organization in my opinion is when the take the pitching machine in the minors and have the catchers practice blocking balls, but throw enough balls that they can catch at times to keep the catchers honest. So I'm not surprised at the lack of fundamentals because Cashman's analytical philosophy makes some basic stuff that was good enough for over 100 years obsolete and unnecessary to practice.
