From MLBTR:

"The Yankees have announced that ace Gerrit Cole will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the procedure. The team will provide further updates following the surgery, but there is no doubt that the 2023 AL Cy Young winner will miss the entire 2025 season."

From me:

This is the Yankees 2025 Starting Rotation as of right now:

  1. Max Fried

  2. Carlos Rodon

  3. Clarke Schmidt

  4. Marcus Stroman

  5. Will Warren

As Spring Training began it appeared the Yankees had that rare and enviable circumstance of too much starting pitching. What a difference 4 weeks makes. Cole will likely be gone, not only for 2025, but as much as half of 2026. Gil will be out the first 3 months of 2025, minimum. Further, the ability to solve other positional defects - dh/3b - by dealing starting pitching (Stroman) no longer seems like a viable option. You're left with a rotation of Fried/Schmidt/Rodon/Stroman and Warren, with Fried the understudy to Cole and Warren taking Gil's spot (at least as it was imagined at the start of 2024). This leaves you with a rotation comparable to what NYY rolled out last sea…

while we weep

let us take a moment to remember that the three remaining starters are extremely talented

and quite capable of keeping the team afloat.

and then let's also remember that it was only last season's early injuries that lead to Gil having an opening and using it to garner ROY honors.

Or take their team with them to South Carolina State Prison. That's another root for the equation.

Gotta feel bad for Cole. To lose a whole season at this point in his career, a really tough break. What if anything will the Yankees do? Stay tuned!

Among those five, it may hinge on what version of Rodon shows up

Godot is going to show up before 2021-22 Rodon does.

Let's hope Schmidt's back holds up.

I'm also concerned with Fried's injury history. He's missed time over the years. He needs to be the #1. I also don't have a lot of faith in Rodon who turns 33 this year.
