Without making excuses, "Judge was hurt," "Cole missed time," and etc.. This is a simple and direct question that is asking for an honest answer.

If you were told on Opening Day that the Yankees would finish in second place in 2026, would that have been something you would be pleased with?

(Again, no excuse making. It's a straight forward question. On Opening Day, did you say, "Boy I hope the Yankees finish in second place this year!")

It would have annoyed me, as it does now. We should be better than this.

Since we all have seen the same swoon for a number of years, happening the same time of the season, and an incomplete roster heading into the season, AGAIN, 2nd place should give the fans what they really need - a new GM! (oh, it also means a manager!)

No, of course not. The question may well be direct and honest, but it's also silly. No one starts a professional contest and says, "I hope I get the silver medal."

A better question would have been, "Would you have been happy if the Yankees had a better record in 2026 than in 2025?" That's one where you could get answers going both ways.
