My Thoughts - This is part of the problem with Aaron Boone - he feels he can and should control the narrative - always. When pressed by the media (which does not happen often) he gets indignant. There is a "How Dare You Ask Me A Tough Question" vibe with Aaron Boone. He simply wants everyone to simply accept his meaningless statements day-after-day.
The press has every right to ask tough questions. Honestly, they need to do this more often. Remember, the reason Boone was hired in the first place was that he was supposed to be an excellent communicator.
My Thoughts - For the season, Trent Grisham is now batting .213. He has an OPS+ of 96. One thing the Yankees need to do is understand that when a player has an outlier year - as Grisham did last year - that it very unlikely to happen again.
My Thoughts: I love Old Timers' Day, but the Yankees have a problem. A big problem that happens annually - too many of the greatest Yankees are not there. Old Timers' Day used to be packed with Hall of Famers who played for the Yankees. This year, there will be one Hall of Fame player in attendance - Mariano Rivera.
The following former Yankees who are in the Hall of Fame who will not be there: Derek Jeter, Reggie Jackson, Dave Winfield, Rich Gossage, C.C. Sabathia, Mike Mussina, Wade Boggs, Ichiro Suzuki, Tim Raines, Andruw Jones, Randy Johnson, Carlos Beltran, Jim Kaat, Lee Smith, and Ivan Rodriguez,
That speaks to a problem, an organizational problem, with the way the Yankees operate. Why are so many of their greatest players not at the team's showcase event? And why does this happen every year?
My Thoughts - In the moments when the manager's decision making most impacts a game, the Yankees seem to lose a lot.
My Thoughts - Really? I enjoyed Anthony Rizzo as a Yankee, but in 2021, Rizzo helped the Yankees make it all the way to a Wild Card loss against the Red Sox. That's one of the best all-time deals? No way. Not by a long shot. (Maybe our friend Dusty Writes can give us a list of all the great Yankees picked-up during the season: Johnny Mize, Enos Slaughter, Johnny Sain, Ewell Blackwell... all the way to Cecil Fielder and David Justice - players who helped propel the Yankees to a championship.) I'm sorry, Anthony Rizzo was a fun player to have on the Yankees, but he was not, in any way, one of the greatest mid-season pick-ups ever.
Paul: With so many former Yankees and HOFers staying away, do you think it is a statement of their objections to how the current ownership and management are soiling the Yankees' legacy?
No surprise that David Weathers and Clay Bellinger are showing up. Ivan Rodriguez, really? Kitty Katt was here for a couple of years as a reliever late in his career, but he's here more as a broadcaster. Reggie's not coming, with the way he went to the Astros and publicly stuck up for those cheaters when everythingcame out. Jeter is not ready. Winfield is not coming here, I'd be shocked if he ever wanted to put back on his #31 jersey. A lot of these other HOF made their marks with other clubs. So either no HoF-ers want to come, or the Yankees don't want them to come. Which is it? Either way, not a good look.
