***

Max Fried was excellent yet again: 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run

PLUS

Cody Bellinger homered

AND

Trent Grisham homered

BUT...

they couldn't get it done in 9 innings

SO

they won in the 10th!

Yankees 4

Padres 3

One game at a time. Possibly All Star. I wouldnt go further than that. dont jinx it. focus on Rodon continuing at current pace and Gil coming back. They still need to trade for a pitcher.

100% Cease is excellent. I would be thrilled to have him

but,

  1. SDP seems pretty clearly one of the best teams in MLB, what reason would we begin to suspect they will be selling

  2. in all honesty they had LAD on the ropes in the playoffs last year and may well feel they let a trip to the WS fumble through their fingers. so again why would they sell

  3. Preller has probably been the most aggressive GM in MLB since he began with SDP. last year @ deadline they added Adam and Scott. do we really think this is the year he is so convinced that they are out of it that he sells?

  4. finally, we know full well when…

yes you can. LEAFS LOSE!!! After what they and their fans did to Leetchie on the day he was traded up there, may they lose for the rest of time!

after going 0 for 4 and ending his 30+ game on base streak, Judge is hanging on to his .400 average by the skin of his teeth

how many games this year have had neither Judge nor Goldy get on base?

almost sorta kinda made up for blowing the first game against the Pods.

Boone and his coaches set their half-rotation so that their 3 regular starters all were pitching in this series

and they got three good starts.

the starters all went at least 6 innings and each allowed 2 runs at most and no runs at least

Here's a fun fact I looked up:

Max Fried through first 8 starts this season: 6-0 (team 8-0), 47 Ks, 1.05 ERA.

Ron Guidry through first 8 starts in 1978: 5-0 (team 7-1), 37 Ks, 1.84 ERA.

Jus' sayin'.

there are rules for a reason. they should be followed. i do NOT want to say they should not be followed

that said, I do think there is some valid context. in our lifetimes, the most noteworthy cheaters in MLB conversation, are the steroid users of the 90s and 00s

during that time, there were hitters who put up BIG numbers and cheated- Bonds, Arod, Palmeiro, McGwire, Sosa and many others

but there were also legendary hitters who put up awesome numbers and did NOT cheat. Griffey, Pujols, Thome to name a few of the best, among many good players who did not cheat

I think the difference in context with Ford and Niekro is that for something like 100…
