Not only did the Yankees reshape their bullpen with Bednar, Bird, and Doval, but they also get the 'W' with a 7-4 win over the Rays!

Credit where credit is due. All decent moves that will help. My big problem, personally, is trading flores. I am not sold on Wells, and flores was next in line. I saw him play this summer, and he can play. He also has that intangible that I like in players. We'll hear from him.

Overall, the bull pen was rebuilt on the fly, they now have a MLB third baseman, and better bench options than perazza. They still do not have a leadoff hitter, but I guess we can't ask for everything. I was hoping for a move or two from their thier MLB roster besides ozzy, as they have holes. I'd really love a better option at 2nd bas…

Oh - plus you can preserve Cabby with a simple option; you only have the option to DFA Slater to get him off the roster (temp move v. permanent cut).

what is the discussion about Cabby? is this thinking about him coming back this year? or are we talking about next year?

doesnt it seem with all the depth for this year they are going to tell Waldo to take it slow and get healed correctly?

and for 2026, as far as I understand, Slater and Rosario are both gone? correct?

now in 2025, I DO think it is possible they decide that Caballero is more valuable than one of Slater or Rosario and in that case they would have to releiase one of them. that would be a bit ironic for Rosario. LAD traded for him last year and then released him

I think Cashman did it that one year he sold on Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman (2016?) when the NYY's were out of it at the trade deadline. other than that one year it's not part of his history/MO,

If dominguez shows marked improvement against LHP - possible, if not particularly likely - then you don't need Slater. In that case then keep Cabby. It works!

This is interesting and yes problematic. From where I sit I would rather Cabby stay up and Slater go but that is not an option.

Cashman would have been better served to have done a better job parting with guys like Grisham who are worth more today then they will ever be worth again. But he has never been a great seller

keeping Grisham provides a possible hedge against Bellinger either leaving or moving to 1B

The only problem with all this is going to be when Judge is activated (perhaps, as early as next week?) he is going to bump one of the 4 bench players off the roster (Caballero, I assume, to AAA, since he has 3 options - no flexibility in optoins remaining for Slater/Rosario/Goldy/Stanton ). Judge in RF allows Stanton to return to the lineup, at least, in the vacated dh spot. Judge as longer term dh means Stanton is limited to a bench/pinch hitting role.

As of Sept. 1 you open up a position player roster spot with expanded rosters (and also 1 for a pitcher), so Caballero could return to the Bronx as the #14 position player on 9/1. Severa…

this same thing was discussed in an earlier part of this thread.

here is something we do not know

WHAT were the other things they were working on that did not lead to a deal?

obviously we know they did trade Peraza so they were at least thinking about trading people away. were they also working on any deals for-

Grisham? Stroman? other position players? any of the displaced relievers?

the Caballero trade was fairly late in the day and it appears Doval was added near the last minute. I would find it EXTREMELY unlikely those were the only deals they were working on at that time

it seems kind of obvious that it would have been best if they…
