I did some quick statistical analysis on Devin Williams and Mariano Rivera as the Yankees blew a 3-0 lead in the 8th to lose 4-3 tonight to the Padres.
Analysis:
Mariano Rivera allowed 13 or fewer earned runs in all of the following seasons:
1998 - 13 ER in 61.1 IP
2003 - 13 ER in 70.2 IP
2005 - 12 ER in 78.1 IP
2008 - 11 ER in 70.2 IP
2009 - 13 ER in 66.1 IP
2010 - 12 ER in 60.0 IP
2011 - 13 ER in 61.1 IP
Devin Williams has the following stats this season:
2025 - 13 ER in 11.2 IP
All this means is that we're surely about to see Williams pitch 50+ innings of scoreless baseball from here until the end of the season.
...I hope.

He needs to be sent down for a few weeks, or used only in mop up for a while.
Why didn't Cruz pitched the 8th inning instead of Williams. Cruz threw like 3 pitches in the 7th inning. Second guessing decision by Boone right there.
I'd be pleased as punch if Williams just threw one more scoreless inning in his next appearance!
