If like me you need to cleanse the taste of Ferguson from your palate, there's this story from The Athletic (behind a pay wall, but accessible through a NY Times subscription) about the oldest living Major Leaguer (he turns 100 next week), Art Schallock, who came up with the Yankees in 1951 (when Mickey Mantle was sent down). I'd never heard of him before. It would be nice if the Yankees could get a video message from him to put up on the jumbotron for Old Timers Day.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
