the MVP

on the last podcast with Paul, EJ stated a couple things, 1. if Judge and Raliegh were roughly equal in WAR he would vote Raliegh for MVP. 2. since Judge is not putting up close to 11 WAR as he has in 2 recent seasons his season is kind of a normal good MVP season

first the WAR

Baseball Reference

Judge 9.8

Ohtani 8.6 (7.5 hitting, 1.1 pitching)

Raliegh 7.3

Fangraphs

Judge 10.1

Ohtani 9.1 (hitting 7.2, pitching 1.9)

Raliegh 9.0

I actually had this post almost written when my computer turned off and the whole thing got lost. I had listed about a dozen HOF players- many never reached 9 WAR once let alone 3 times a…

exactly! and it is a walk over in about half a dozen categories. Raleigh is not even in second place in the AL in all the categories he trails Judge.

he is not second in BA, he is 47th

not second in OBP, he is 9th

Raleigh leads in HRs and RBIs. Judge is second in both. Raleigh also had 55 more ABs. FWIW, Raleigh also did lead in stolen bases 14 to 12

Judge leads in every other offensive category and many of them he leads by an amount that makes comparison a bit of a joke!

you are exactly right! we needed him to hit 12 home runs today and loan 10 of them to the rays

to be clear, I am NOT extremely disappointed to be playing the WC. LOTS of teams have played for the WS from the WC spot. i admit there are definitely disadvantages. I think it is incorrect to think that there are zero advantages.

that said, I think we are definitely a better team than the jays and while I give them credit, I still hate losing to them. most of all, I hate it that we only needed one game and all of us can point to... what? 20 games that we gave away? is it more than that?

so is this the time and place to ask which loss is the most frustrating? I know many will say th…

Boone pitched poorly all season

and his hitting was substandard.

to be fair, after Cashman made some astute deadline deals, Boone pitched much better in relief

Paul, can you find the pre-season win-prediction post and comments? I'd love to see how everyone did. I think I said 92 wins, but I don't remember.

My pleasure. Did you get my e-mail about Lafayette College? I sent it twice.

i am not really convinced that the Jays are a particularly good team

BUT, I must give them credit. when they lost 2 in a row to boston and let us tie them, I thought they would be unable to carry the weight and would fail to hang on for the division lead

instead they won 4 games in a row to end the season. credit to them!

will we see the RH heavy lineup in game 1 vs Crochet? I feel we definitely should, but I am not sure if Boone, etc... will have the necessary stuff to start a playoff game with Grisham, Rice, and Jazz on the bench

last time we faced Crochet that lineup was successful,…

hard to argue that they've not demonstrated that they're a goodenough team

they've earned the easier post-season path
