After an ugly, boring, tedious, horrible, miserable, and (add your own (appropriate) word) loss in extra innings on Tuesday, the Yankees have bounced back and won back-to-back games over the Cleveland Guardians.


Today Gerrit Cole did the bulk of the lifting from the mound.


Aaron Judge homered (again).


Giancarlo Stanton homered.


(Hummm... DJ LeMahieu and Jose Trevino get benched and the Yankees win two in a row.)

Yankee minor leaguers Trent Sellers, Mason Vinyard, and Thomas Balboni combined for a NO-HITTER today in Hudson Valley's 6-0 victory. It was the 2nd NO-HITTER in the last 5 weeks for this Yankee minor league club. HERE'S THE CALL OF THE FINAL OUT:

1-1/2 games up now on Baltimore. So far, Houston is undefeated against Baltimore this year, having swept them in Houston earlier this season.


People were saying "How could the Yankees lose two in a row to the Mets?". The Orioles just got finished "losing two in a row to the Mets", too.

the painful part of the loss to the Guardians on Tuesday was having Gil become hurt and surrendering runs to a team that, at present, can not score against good pitching.

at the conclusion of the three games, it seemed rather obvious that the Guardians have a couple of fine relievers, good defense, an inferior rotation and an offense with fewer good hitters than the Yankees

Yet, the Guardians are also in first place, just like the Yankees. That's why I say the Yankees, with all their many flaws, still have an excellent chance of winning the World Series this year. Because every single first place team, and every single team who will likely be in the post season this fall, has multiple flaws and deficiencies, as well as injuries to key players, as well as player slumps, and every one of those teams has been swept this year by one or more of the bottom-feeders in baseball this year.
