Writer's picture: Paul SemendingerPaul Semendinger

***

The Yankees came back from being down 4-0 to defeat the Red Sox and are now 3 games ahead of the Orioles.

Yankees 5, Red Sox 4

Aaron Judge hit a GRAND SLAM!

Most fans couldn't see it because it was on a pay service and taken away from them.

Thanks Yankees and/or MLB. It's great that you treat your fans so very well.

Let us be honest, the good old days are long gone and the price for every fan whether it is attending a game or watching a game.... it will lighten your wallet! Nobody likes to pay more money but get used to it. If you subscribe to YES you get something like 140 games.... who has time to watch all those games and adding another service beyond YES is more money and time.... I get it, but complaining MEH!!!

Ah, the good 'ole days......When ALL of the Yankee games were on Channel 11 (WPIX) for free, broadcasted by Phil Rizzuto, Frank Messer, and Bill White. And then when cable TV became a thing, MOST of the games were on Channel 11 for free, and the few that weren't, were on Sportschannel (Now MSG +). How I miss those days.

P.S. The only time I listen to games on the radio nowadays is if I'm in a car. It's a very different experience seeing it in my mind's eye instead of TV. Marshall McLuhan was right about radio being a "hot" medium that involves the audience much more intensely than the "cool" medium of TV. One that sticks in my mind was being in DC in 1998. I could get WCBS 880 (50k watt clear channel!) on certain streets. David Wells was pitching another no-hitter (against the A's maybe?). I pulled over on a street where I had good reception and listened until he gave up a hit. Over a quarter of a century later, that experience stays with me.

Last 10 games. 6 - 4, with a 3 game winning streak.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
