Readers' Thread - Let's Get Ready!

September 29, 2026
***
Our writers have said a whole lot over the last many days about the Yankees vs Red Sox series. There's not much more for us to say until the games begin.
Use this thread to discuss tonight's game in advance of the Game Thread.
But, just a reminder about the comments - keep it clean and keep it respectful. You all know the rules.
If you don't know the rules, here's a simple one - if you have questions about whether or not a comment is acceptable, it's probably not.

Lineups are out. Yankees vs. Tolle, 3-21, .143 BA, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 6 K (28.5%). Tolle 2026 vs. Yankees, 2 GS, 1-0, 13 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 0.69 ERA, 1 BB, 18 K.
Sox vs. Schlitter, 13-78, .167 BA, 1 HR (Durbin), 4 RBI, 25 K (32.1%). Schlittler 2026 vs. Sox, 4 GS, 2-1, 24.1 IP, 7 R, 2 ER (defense hurt him badly in the loss), 0.74 ERA, 9 BB, 27 K.
I predict a pitchers' duel. Also Payton Tolle is a dead-ringer for Walt Terrell, doncha' think?
The BoSox lineup just came out, and no surprises there. New Yankees killer Wilson Contreras playing 1B, hitting 3rd.
A bit surprised that it's Volpe over Jazz at 2B. Definitely surprised that it's Rosario at 3B. With how Spencer Jones has handled LHP, a bit surprised that he's batting 8th. But he's gotten better at taking pitches, so if Volpe gets on in front of him, he'll give Volpe a chance to go.
Schlittler vs. Anyone this year advantage Yankees. Even over Mis, because Mis is the guy who will be pulled, while how Schlittler is pitching will be why he gets pulled before 7 complete.
I think tomorrow we see a Fried/Warren combo
But tonight is Boston vs New…
Gotta admit I'm torn this year. I'd love to see us go all the way, but I'm afraid that would mean signing Boone for another few years.
From the rooftops, shout it out.
