A little background to begin...
As many know, I am writing a series of books on the Battle of Gettysburg that will be published by Sunbury Press. Volume 1 will arrive later this year or early next year. One of my close friends, Mike, and I share many stories about Civil War history. Mike is also a long time Yankees fan. As such, we also talk a lot about baseball history.
The other day, Mike learned that Stonewall Jackson had a cousin who was nicknamed Mudwall. I had never heard of Mudwall Jackson. (And, as it turns out, there may have been three different Mudwall Jacksons.)
The talk of Mudwall led to baseball nicknames such as Mudcat Grant. Mike noted that in today's game there are not many great nicknames.
For the Readers' Thread today, let's develop some nicknames for some current Yankees. But, within a few rules. First, keep it clean. Next, let's keep the nicknames positive. No need for this to point out players' flaws or whatever.
What great nicknames can we give to the current Yankees?
Oh, and Randy “The Rattlesnake” Levine.
Sorry. I just couldn’t resist.
Paul Goldstandard
Oswald’s “Cabby Man” Cabrera (riff on “Candy Man”)
The Golden Fox (Volpe GG defense)
Jazz “Take 2” Chisholm (riff on Dave Brubeck classic “Take5” with a nod to his SB ability)
“Digger” Wells
“Grits” Grisham
Oswald “Pizazza” (if he flashes the leather)
”Cool Hand” Luke (Weaver)
Fried Rice ( Max and Ben promos if Ben can ball)
The Cole Train ( another jazz take)
Cody Bell “Ringer” (home run call?)
Aaron “Big Stick” Judge (something a little different than the judge references. He walks softly and certainly carries one.)
Luis The Kingsman Gil
Luis Luis throws an Oh No No
Luis Luis Ks 15 Red Sox tells them they gotta go
Anthony "Fox on the Run" Volpe. That's a Sweet nickname if there ever was.
You're lucky Caleb Ferguson isn't still on the team. I don't think I could resist the temptation.
Not to bring up a bad memory, but Gerrit "PFP" Cole seems to fit.
