For me, it's about seeing some of the kids in Spring Training because guys went off to the WBC, starting with then-rookie Melky Cabrera in 2006. or both Dominguez & Narvzez in 2023. I love being able to see more of Lagrange & Hess because of the 5 pitchers off to the WBC, who would all need innings if they were here.
I'm trying to get excited by the WBC but I still can't manage to watch more than an occasional highlight. If the USA plays Japan in the final, then that might be intriguining enough for me to tune in on.
I find myself being far more interested in watching spring training games. I was hoping to see Nick Torres get ten or twenty at-bats this spring, but looks like that's not happening. Here I thought he had a remote chance to make the opening day roster as a fourth outfielder. Guess again! Looks like the Yankees have all but given the 4th outfielder spot to Grichuk as he fills the team's need for a right-handed bat that can hit left-handed…
