Well, they called me out of the bullpen again.
I'd like to think I'm like the Great Mariano at this point, coming out of retirement to help schools in need, but it might be more like Ramiro Mendoza because I'll be throwing some very important middle innings, but I'm not closing out the games.
A local school district was in need of an interim principal. An administrator in that town reached out to me, and, well, the rest is history. I'm putting the uniform (suit coat and tie) back on and heading in for some important innings of work. I'll be on the mound (or, in the office) through December.
Of course, as most know, I'm also teaching two evening college classes. And I'm wrapping up three books. I have a family. I'm a grandpa. I serve on a church committee. I'm involved with SABR. On and on. I certainly keep busy. Some would say I'm much too busy. Something has to "giv," and, as such, things are going to change a bit here at SSTN while I'm back working fulltime.
For eight years, since 2017, I have made sure, with the great and loyal help of the writers, and my son at my right hand, to bring no fewer than three articles every single day to our readers, publishing articles here at 6:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. in addition to the game threads, quick hits, and more.
No one, anywhere, did this kind of work so consistently and so well. We have done this without the backing of any corporation or network. We've put of thousands and thousands of articles and entertained countless people - engaging them with great content daily. Again, no one has been able to produce as we have. Except if one does this, no one has any idea how much work this takes.
But, for now, things are going to change...
For the months of October, November, and December, we're going to cut back on what we promise to deliver. The 6:00 a.m. article will come each morning. But after that, anything goes. There will be some days when the 6:00 article might be the only article we post . As long as the Yankees are playing, there will be post season game threads. But, because the games often go late, I cannot promise that there will be a Quick Hit after the games. (I'll probably be sleeping when the final out is made on many nights.)
I have some simple articles that I will pre-schedule for some 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. posts, but I cannot promise to have these every day or all the time. For the most part, there won't be any long articles from me coming in those time slots. The articles posted will be thought-provoking, even if they consist of nothing more than an image.
Most of our regular features will continue. Andy's mailbag will continue, as will the Tuesday Discussion and the Reader Threads. Since they're recorded on weekends and at night, my podcasts will still be posted (but I'll be doing only one podcast rather than two). In addition, I'm sure we'll have some content from EJ and Sal and from my friends at the IBWAA, and maybe from some other places too. We might be able to surprise and continue our tremendous article output, hitting all of the scheduled times, but going forward, until after Christmas, I'm not going to promise anything. We will do our best.
In regard to the reader comments, I greatly appreciate the fact that these have been respectful and focused on baseball. There's been great dialogue there. I love the discussions. Of course, I won't be part of them most going forward. I'll also have less time to monitor the comments meaning if I see a comment that I deem inappropriate because it seems mean spirited, is bullying, attempts to bring politics to the site, uses profanity (even mild profanity), uses name calling, and the like, I'm not going to write warnings or give reminders. I'll simply delete the comment when I see it, even if I see the comment hours later or even the next day. I don't have time to play silly games and engage in nonsense. If some want to push the envelope, those comments will be deleted. Just do the right thing. Be respectful of others and keep content that doesn't belong here away from here. Everyone knows what is acceptable and what to do. Again, I don't have time to play games.
I'm hoping for a great long postseason run for the Yankees. I am eager to see a World Championship. I have great hopes for this team this year. I'm optimistic. Let's Go Yankees!
I am also excited to get back into the arena. It'll be great to be a principal and to lead a staff of teachers and a school of children. It's a good thing to do good things.
I was needed to step up, and so I will, once again.
