The stereotyping of Judge is really off putting

1) he's too old

2) he's too big

3) he's not worth signing long-term

Judge is a unicorn. He's not Frank Howard or Adam Dunn or Dale Murphy. He's much, much better than any of those guys.

This is why I get turned off by analytics. You can't predict everything about a player based on what happened in the past to other guys. Its said of accountants that they know the price of everything and the value of nothing. That's the same sort of feeling about guys who are completely obsessed with minutiae and models that are somehow regarded as chipped into stone and carried down from the top of Mt. Sinai…

All good points. I would point out that while Mays' top line numbers did decline with age his 35-40 years also included a general decline in offense. His OPS+ in those years 149, 124, 156, 124, 140, 158. His bWAR: 9.0, 4.4, 6.3, 3.1 (appears to have missed some time that year), 5.2, 6.3.

Judge is averaging 49 HR/162 games so far. I think he's going to get to 500.

I agree. There are many ways to rate a player. I think batting average and wins are indicators of success. Are they perfect? No, but they do mean something. RBI's and runs scored as well even those those are also, by and large a result of the team and not the person.

"This charming and meticulously researched book will remind you of baseball’s power to change and enrich lives far beyond the diamond."

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
