I really don't have a problem of not signing everyone simply because today everyone wants 7, 8, 10 year contracts. That's OK. But.... then you gotta put that max effort into their Farm System. I've said it again and again, I'd blow the entire Development Program. Their coaching is garbage. Their roster construction is garbage every year.

Yes, Verlander came back at 40 because he was a complete pitcher and did not have to rely only on his fastball. He had other pitches in his arsenal. Cole is a different story. He is strictly a power pitcher. All fastballs with a slider thrown in now and then. My hope is that Cole can can develop an off-speed pitch or two, splitter, curve. Unless we are all wrong and Cole comes back good as new with the heater at 98. Let's hope but 36 year old guys with lots of mileage on his arm might have to make some major adjustments.
