The Sunday Readers' Thread (Carlos Rodon)

December 3, 2023

***

David, one of our loyal readers shared the following idea with us the other day:

Have you considered a weekly "open comments" section? Comments would have to be Yankees related, everyone must be civil, no belittling someone else's ideas, and no personal attacks or political talk.

This might inspire some interesting, lively, discussion. You could get the ball rolling by throwing out very general, open ended questions like: What should the Yankees do about Third Base? or Cashman and Hal aside, what is the biggest challenge facing the 2024 Yankees? or What should the Yankees do about Stanton? I would bet that you get a considerable number of comments, and perhaps some outside the box creative suggestions.

We love this idea. Here is this week's question:

What do you expect from Carlos Rodon in 2024?

I say Rodon throws about 140 innings with a 3.25 ERA

I like aqnd am hopeful that what James Quinn said below holds true:

"while Rodon is volatile he also seems to be a very proud person. So I truly believe he will be working hard this offseason to try and show New York Yanks/fans he can be the valuable piece they thought they were getting. "

If this is true, and if Rodon works on having a better attitude, he could have an excellent year.

Fingers crossed.

Isnt‘t it funny what can happen over a years time? Last year the click bait reporters had many Yankee fans screaming that the team needed to sign Rodon. Now all I see is how Steinbrenner and Yankees will regret their decision for signing him. I expect if he is healthy he will show a marked increase in his performance from this past season, but I doubt it will be as dominant as previous two seasons before signing.

However, only time will tell if he will not only be able to stay healthy, but become close to what the Yanks thought they were signing up for. That said while Rodon is volatile he also seems to be a ve…

From a Tweet on our Twitter (X) page :

"I'm not sure, but I hope Rodon's 2024 season won't be worse then his dismal 2023 season or else we will hear comparisons to Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa and Hideki Irabu"

I worry that he may be like Sonny Gray or Javier Vazquez; guys that are good...... until they get to New York.
