The Tuesday Discussion: Gifts

December 26, 2023

This week we asked our writers to share photos of some baseball related gifts they gave or received this holiday season.

Lincoln Mitchell - My birthday is in December, so this was a birthday present not a holiday present. My brother-in-law grew up in Los Angeles and I grew up in San Francisco. He is a Dodgers and Angels fan while I am a Giants and Yankees fan. I was born in New York and my mother’s family were all Yankees fans going back for several decades. In any case, my brother-in-law and I have a tradition of giving each other baseball memorabilia for birthday. He gets me Giants related gifts and I get him Dodgers related gifts. This is what he gave me this year.

Ethan Semendinger - I am working on building the 1959 Topps set. I received a few cards and this wonderful new book that gives a biography on each player in the set!

Michael Saffer - I collect Yankees ornaments for the tree!

Mike Whiteman - I love vintage baseball hats, and I received two books in addition!

Tim Kabel - From my son who plays baseball there...

Ed Botti - I got a nice photo of the Captain for my office.

Paul Semendinger - For the writer, some books to read...

Scattering the Ashes.jpeg

"Scattering The Ashes has all the feels. Paul Russell Semendinger's debut novel taps into every emotion. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll reexamine those relationships that give your life meaning." — Don Burke, writer at The New York Post

The Least Among Them.png

"This charming and meticulously researched book will remind you of baseball’s power to change and enrich lives far beyond the diamond."

—Jonathan Eig, New York Times best-selling author of Luckiest Man, Opening Day, and Ali: A Life

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
