The Yankees and Spending

SOME FACTS THAT SHOULD OPEN MANY EYES

By Cary Greene

To start, please refer to this article:

The Yankees are 11th place on the Revenue to Payroll Percentage list. What does this very telling statement say about the franchise's commitment to winning a championship? For one, this information really isn't widely publicized and average fans probably don't realize that Hal Steinbrenner is pocketing HALF of the revenue the Yankees generate.

That said, the average fan very much seems to realize the Yankees aren't spending at rates the Dodgers are, much less the Yankees crosstown rivals -- the Mets (backed by the deep pocketed Cohen).

What Casual fans absolutely don't realize is that Hal Steinbrenner isn't even as committed to winning as the Angels, Royals or Orioles are. Think about THAT for a moment. Wow! All three of these woeful, losing teams spend more percent of their revenue to payroll than Steinbrenner does.

Yes somehow, the media lets Hal Steinbrenner largely get away with this behavior. He's running the Yankees franchise into the ground and eroding a once proud fan base's perception of the team they grew up rooting for. He's conceding the brand that once had a championship or bust mentality to teams that want to win more than he does, -- teams like the Dodgers, the Blue Jays, the Mets, the Phillies, even the Diamondbacks, Padres and Rangers all spend more of their profits on payroll than Hal Steinbrenner's Yankees do.

Hal Steinbrenner is pulling the wool over Yankees fan's eyes and it's time for it to stop. The media has to start blasting him with the facts.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
