DO THE RIGHT THING YANKEES!

The following players are the oldest living Yankees, all over 80 years-old, with strong claims for inclusion in Monument Park.

It is well past time for these former players to have the honor of inclusion in Monument Park while they can appreciate this well-deserved honor.

An important note - The Yankees can arrange for this today. There are no rules, no voting procedures, no timelines, no schedules, and no calendars for inclusion in Monument Park. The Yankees can add players to Monument Park whenever they wish.

All of the players below easily meet and exceed the criteria for Monument Park. They are each Yankees legends. (Read more HERE.)

***

  • Bill White (92 years-old): A Yankees announcer from 1971 to 1988 (18 years).

  • Bobby Richardson (91 years-old): A lifetime Yankee. 12 seasons as a Yankee. An 8-time All-Star. Won five Gold Gloves. Was a World Series MVP. Played in 7 World Series. One of the greatest second basemen in Yankees history.

  • Tony Kubek (90 years-old): A lifetime Yankee. 9 seasons as a Yankee. Rookie of the Year. A 4-time All-Star. Played in 6 World Series.

  • Lou Piniella (82 years-old): A Yankee for 11 years. Managed the Yankees two times. Was the Yankees GM.

  • Roy White (82 years-old): A lifetime Yankee. Played on the Yankees for 15 seasons. Among the top Yankees in a host of categories. A two-time All-Star. Played in three World Series. Also served as a Yankees coach and instructor.

  • Sparky Lyle (82 years-old): A Yankee for 7 seasons. Cy Young Award Winner. Save leader. A 3-time All-Star. Pitched in three World Series.

  • Graig Nettles (82-years old*): A Yankee for 11 seasons. Arguably the greatest third baseman in the team's history. Led the AL in homers. ALCS MVP. Former team captain. Two Gold Gloves. 5-time All-Star. Played in four World Series.

*Nettles turns 82 on August 20.

Honorable Mention:

  • Bobby Shantz (100 years-old): A four year Yankee. Led the league in ERA in 1957* with the Yankees. Won four Gold Gloves with the Yankees. Was an All-Star as a Yankee

I have been arguing for Nettles for years. Yes, he belongs. 100%.

But the players above all also have great and solid cases for inclusion. They have as much of a case, if not better than Tino Martinez, for example.
