I wish I could have seen that team. 99-52 record and win it all in 6 over Brooklyn. Must have been great to go to those games!!

And so? Interesting list, but what is the context, relevance or intended takeaway? I mean, I could post a list of the top 10 1917 Yankees by WAR. (Spoiler alert: Pitcher Slim Love was No. 10 at 1.5.) What would any of it mean?

I was away last week and spent a ton of time making sure the readers would have their 10:00 and 2:00 articles each day by pre-scheduling most of the articles that appeared last week. As part of that, I thought this would be a fun way to look at some Yankees history.


The Top-10 Yankees by WAR in any year is interesting.


There is a lot in that list - names that some fans probably never heard of such as Irv Noren.


I'm sure many fans didn't realize that Johnny Sain was a more valuable pitcher (by WAR) in 1953 than Whitey Ford.
