Yankees and the Hall of Fame: Bartolo Colon
by James Vlietstra
***
Now that the off-season is here, I am back and reviewing the credentials of a ton of former Yankees and highlighting their careers. Many of their accomplishments have been forgotten.
Even if some are not future Hall of Famers, it's good to remember what they did accomplish.
Together, we can discuss if we believe that they are deserving of being included in the Hall Of Fame or not. I hope you read along and give me your opinions.
Today we are going to be looking at...
Bartolo Colon:
During his 21 year career, he played for 11 different teams, including one season with the Yankees.
He had three seasons of 5.0 WAR or higher and finished with 48.2 in his career, higher than Jim Kaat and Herb Pennock.
He pitched over 200 innings in eight seasons.
He was a four time All Star.
He won the Cy Young award.
His career total of 2,535 strikeouts is 37th all time, and more than Matthewson and Drysdale.
His 247-184 record was good for a .568 winning percentage.
His win total is 51st all time.
He is 10th all time for pitchers whose career started in the past 50 years.
