Over the next many months, I am going to review the credentials of several former Yankees.
With all that being said, I am going to review the credentials of several former Yankees. Together, we can discuss if we believe that they are deserving of being included in the Hall Of Fame or not. I hope you read along and give me your opinions over the next several weeks.
Note - Some people currently in the Hall Of Fame are not specifically in for their merits as a player alone. For instance, Joe Torre didn't get in until after his success as a manager. Phil Rizzuto made it after a career as an announcer. Overall, their careers were definitely deserving. Similarly, Bill Mazeroski was generally considered a light hitting middle infielder, however, one iconic moment got him enshrined. I am including some of these type players too for us to discuss.
Today we are going to be discussing:
Bobby Abreu...
He played for six teams during his 18 year career, including three seasons with the Yankees.
His 60.2 WAR is higher than Ichiro Suzuki and Vladimir Guerrero.
He exceeded 5,0 WAR in seven straight seasons.
He is one of only 13 players to achieve a 30/30 season multiple times.
He was a two time all star and won a Gold Glove.
He exceeded 298 TBs five times.
He scored at least 100 runs in eight different seasons and knocked in at least 100 runs eight times.
He is in the Phillies Wall Of Fame.
He has 921 extra base hits (62nd all time), 1,453 Runs (82nd), 2,470 Hits (87th), 574 2Bs (25th), 1,363 RBIs (89th), 400 SBs (74th), 4,026 TBs (89th), and 1,476 BBs (20th).
From 2020 through 2025 he has jumped from 5.5% to 19.5% in voting.
Would definitely approve of him being in the Hall.
Yes I am for a bigger HOF, and I think he is worthy
I always vote for Abreu in my annual HOF voting article. Not a lot of players with his power/speed mix.
All star player? Yes. HOF: Absolutely not
