Over the next many months, I am going to review the credentials of several former Yankees.

Together, we can discuss if we believe that they are deserving of being included in the Hall of Fame or not.

I hope you read along and share your opinions.

Dave Kingman...

During his 16-year career, he played for seven different teams.  Only eight games were for the Yankees, but he helped get them to the playoffs in 1977.

When he retired in 1986, his 442 Home Runs were good for 19th all time and his 1,210 RBIs were good for 76th.

Kingman was the first player ever to hit over 400+ HRs and not be elected to the Hall of Fame.

Kingman was a three-time all-star who earned MVP votes in five different seasons. He led the league in homers two times and runs batted in three times.

In 1992, he received only three votes on his first year eligible and was removed from future elections.

Pretty much the prototype of the 3 outcome player. A WAR of barely 1.0 for his career. Hard pass.

17.3 WAR (23.2 oWAR) does not a Hall of Famer make. Also, he was a jerk.

Not a Hall of Famer but I will never forget a home run he hit in old Briggs Stadium in Detroit. He launched a ball over the roof in left field. Should have heard the Yankee announcers. Sounded like they swallowed their tongues. Moon shot.

Overall, not a bad career but definitely agree not a Hall Of Famer.

King Kong does not belong.

As a 9-year-old, I did enjoy his week as a Yankee in 1977 though.

Replying to

I remember Kingman played for 4 different teams in 1977 including the Yankees. It's too bad he was ineligible for the postseason that year.

From Compton to the Bronx.jpg

"A young man from Compton rises to the highest levels of baseball greatness.

Considered one of the classiest baseball players ever, this is Roy White's story, but it's also the story of a unique period in baseball history when the Yankees fell from grace and regained glory and the country dealt with societal changes in many ways."
