Tim Mead, the President of the Baseball Hall of Fame, made the official announcement of the 2020 Hall of Fame induction class earlier today on MLBNetwork. This year, the Modern Era Veterans Committee and the BBWAA have elected 4 players to forever be remembered in the annals of Major League Baseball History. Of them will be one former Yankee.
This former Yankee will join 28 other Yankees players, executives, and managers in Cooperstown this summer.
This Yankee announced to be joining the 2020 Hall of Fame class, joining his other accolades including 5 World Series rings, a Rookie of the Year, 5 Gold Glove, and 5 Silver Slugger Awards, being none other than: Derek Jeter.
In his 20-Year Career, Jeter collected 72.4 bWAR, recorded the 6th most hits of all-time (3465), and hit to a triple-slash of .310/.377/.440 (.817 OPS) with a 115 OPS+ in his 2747 regular season games played. Jeter also recorded 260 Home Runs with 1311 RBI’s, and stole 358 bases during those 20 years. On top of this, he also had fantastic postseason numbers in 155 games over 16 different postseasons and 33 series played, with a triple-slash of .308/.374/.465 (.838 OPS) with 20 Home Runs and 61 RBI’s, numbers that are directly in line with a normal Jeterian season.
Derek Jeter will join fellow BBWAA 2019 Hall of Fame Inductee: Larry Walker (OF); alongside Modern Era Committee Inductee’s: Marvin Miller (Executive) and Ted Simmons (C).
Congratulations to all the players above on Baseball Immortality and Welcome to Cooperstown!
