Final Score: Athletics-3, New York Yankees-2
Yankees Player of the Game
Without much offense going except for the first inning, tonight’s player of the game has to be Cody Bellinger, who went 1-4 with an RBI.
Better to Forget:
Ben Rice, for the first time in his young career, went 0-4 with 4 Strikeouts.
My Thoughts:
The first inning saw the Yankees score 2 runs, and it looked like it could be a blowout inning, only for that to be the only runs the Yanks scored all night. It's hard to critique the team that is off to an 8-3 start and sitting in first place in the AL East, but if there is one critique, it’s that they are leaving too many men on base and not bringing them home. Luis Severino looked like he was in for a short night in the first, but after that inning, he locked in and seemed to cruise through 5 innings. Jeff McNeil continues to hurt the Yankees when he faces them. The two fielding errors by the Yankees were pretty routine plays that should have been outs, and it's something the team will be working on preventing for the rest of the season. Aaron Boone got creative with playing Ryan McMahon at short for his fielding and Amed Rosario at third for his bat. There were no late-inning heroics this time in the Bronx, and instead, the Yanks will go for the series win today against the Athletics.
Next Up: The final game of the series between the Athletics and Yankees will see the Athletics Jeffrey Springs facing off against the Yankees Ryan Weathers in a battle of left-handers and for the series win. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM on YES.
