2:08 PM - Mark Feinsand (MLB): "With the Rays acquiring Liam Hicks and the Red Sox seemingly on the verge of trading for Adley Rutschman, the Yankees may turn to the Reds for catching help in Tyler Stephenson." (Tweet)
2:15 PM - Joel Sherman (NY Post): "The Yankees were very much trying for Adley Rutschman. Elmer Rodriguez was being discussed as a key to the trade. With Liam Hicks off the market now too, NYY has to pivot elsewhere for a catcher. Tyler Stephenson?" (Tweet)
2:24 PM - Jack Curry (YES): "Luis Garcia, Jr., who wore #2 with the Nats, is expected to wear #26 as a Yankee. It seems likely that Max Schuemann will be sent to Triple A to open a roster spot for Garcia." (Tweet)
4:43 PM - Bryan Hoch (MLB): "The Yankees do not have any plans of getting Ben Rice back behind the plate. Aaron Boone says he sees Rice, Luis Garcia Jr. and Paul Goldschmidt all as 1B/DH, with Goldschmidt playing vs. LHPs." (Tweet)
4:51 PM - Bryan Hoch (MLB): "Aaron Boone on the Trade Deadline: "Cash and the guys are down in Tampa grinding away. We have a lot of confidence in them ultimately doing what's best for our team, obviously in the present, but moving forward as well. We trust those guys to do what's best for our club."" (Tweet)
4:54 PM - Joel Sherman (NY Post): "More and more it is possible the Yankees do NOT get a catcher. Jeffers and Goodman do not appear to be moving. Heard some talks with Pirates about Henry Davis, who is not the kind of bad hitter they need. Seem more looking at relief/RH OF bat. Still an hour left though." (Tweet)
4:57 PM - Ken Rosenthal (The Athletic): "The Yankees are working on a trade for the Giants’ Heliot Ramos" (Tweet)
5:11 PM - Mark Feinsand (MLB): "The Yankees are close to acquiring OF Heliot Ramos from the Giants, per source. LHP Henry LaLane is believed to be the primary prospect in the trade." (Tweet)
AFTERNOON DISCUSSIONS:
---
Things To Do Over the Next Four Hours:
Given how the last four hours brought us all no new news (or even rumors) about the Yankees, here are a list of things you could do in the next four hours:
Call a few friends on the phone,
Send out some work e-mails about doing business with other people in your field,
Convene with your co-workers about a new strategy on how to tackle a new project,
Drink a coffee,
Knock on your boss's door to make sure he's awake,
Remind Brian Cashman that the trade deadline is less than 4 hours away
---
On Adley Rutschman:
The deal is now done.
The Orioles have traded Adley Rutschman to the Red Sox for the 49th best prospect in the MLB (Anthony Eyanson), along with the Red Sox 4th (Kyson Witherspoon) and 5th (Enddy Azocar) prospects, Carlos Narvaez, and a PTBNL.
For the Yankees, a similar return would have been:
-Elmer Rodriguez (72nd overall prospect)
-Carlos Lagrange (Yankees 4th)
-Henry Lalane (Yankees 5th),
-Austin Wells,
-and a PTBNL
Now that everything is said and done, that is a gigantic package to trade for a catcher who is currently injured and who has had injury problems in recent years. Time will tell. Right now my gut instinct is that I would not have done that deal, but only so that I could have the necessary pieces to make other moves. I am sure Tyler Stephenson will cost less.
3 hours to go.
---
On Heliot Ramos:
This is the 4th outfielder type of move that I was expecting, but Ramos was not the player that I was hoping for.
The biggest benefits on Ramos are that he is an above-average hitter and comes with three years of control (which is more than Nootbaar or Moniak).
Though, Ramos is not a great defender, which as a left fielder in Yankee Stadium is not a great sign of things to come. Especially with the decrease in defense this year from Trent Grisham.

On It Being 6:00 PM:
That's it.
I did it again.
Trade Deadline conquered by me.
Trade Deadline passed by, by Brian Cashman.
Any further trades will be posted in the comments. Thanks for following!

From Paul Semendinger:
GREAT JOB ETHAN!
Also, the Ramos deal is official:

Something fun from the list - the Mets dealt Luke Weaver to the Pirates. Who thought we would see the Mets selling to the Pirates this year?!?
My final point tonight...
The Move the Goal Posts Argument from Yankees Fans:
Over the winter many were very critical of the Yankees strategy to basically sit it out, and not address the many needs and just wait on Cody Bellinger.
When the flaw of this apporach was brought up, those fans said, "They will fix those problems at the trade deadline."
Well, they didn't.
The had a bad winter followed by a bad trade deadline.
Unless, as I have agruged for a long time, the Yankees' business model is to be pretty good, or a little better than average - just be good enough to be in the pennant race.
And they will be.
And they are.
But they…
Thanks Ethan.
Ethan, phenomenal job, as always! We're all going to have thoughts for days to come...
ETHAN :
thumbs up
