The half hour rain delay may have been the real "player" of the game, because afterwards the Yankees were a different team.
Quick Stats -
Winning Pitcher: Will Warren (6-4, 4.70 ERA)
Losing Pitcher: Logan Gilbert (2-3, 3.88 ERA)
Save: N/A
Home Runs (Seattle): Cal Raleigh (36)
Home Runs (New York): Giancarlo Stanton (2), Austin Wells (14), Aaron Judge (32)
Big Story - The Yankees had an off-day on Monday and before they returned to action on Tuesday, there was lots of news in Yankees-land.
First off, Mark Leiter Jr. got placed on the IL with a stress fracture in his left leg. A stress fracture that he suffered on June 24th. He was allowed to pitch 4 (!) more times before the Yankees stopped him. He's out indefinitely.
This combines with the fact that the Yankees didn't go get Clarke Schmidt's elbow tested (and have now lost him for the next two seasons to Tommy John surgery), and have been allowing Jazz Chisholm to play through a shoulder injury at third base. (And it brings shades of the mismanagement of Anthony Rizzo's concussion, which all but ruined his career, and how they allowed Jose Trevino to play with a broken hand.) The training staff optics are not a good look for the franchise.
Speaking of Jazz Chisholm, he's now going to be the Yankees everyday second baseman again. Funny how that goes. A player who was told all offseason that he's the second baseman is now the second baseman again.
I am a certified Jazz enthusiast and I give Chisholm a lot of credit for agreeing to try out third base again. (Even if his antics get a bit much, I do like the fact that he brings energy to this team.) However, it made no sense to prevent him from playing second base so that the Yankees could play an aging, and past his prime, DJ LeMahieu.
Father time is undefeated, and yet the Yankees front office cannot believe that every player will reach a time when they can no longer play the kids game. I feel badly for LeMahieu, but his time has been up for years. It is the right call (finally) for him to be a bench bat.
Here was the Yankees' line-up to start a 3-game mid-week series against the Mariners:

The Game - I didn't watch the first four innings of this game. I didn't know there was a rain delay. Unfortunately, this is because I have a debilitating condition. When I sit down to watch a Yankees game, I fall asleep.
Every. Single. Time.
So, when I awoke, I was pleased to find that the game was tied. And, very quickly from that moment, the Yankees went ahead in the bottom of the 5th inning via an Oswald Peraza RBI single to score Paul Goldschmidt.
Then, while the Yankees pitchers (Will Warren pitched a solid 5.2 innings before being replaced by Tim Hill) continued to hold the Mariners scoreless, the Yankees started to find an offensive note that has been missing of late.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Giancarlo Stanton discovered a home run swing that has been sparse to see this year, scoring both Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger (both on base via single). This gave the Yankees a 4-0 lead...that lasted three more batters. Jazz Chisholm walked (and got caught stealing), Paul Goldschmidt singled, and Austin Wells hit a 2-run home run of his own.
Tim Hill stayed in the game through the 7th inning and continued the shut-out before the Yankees bats continued to stay hot in the bottom half of the inning.
This time, it was Aaron Judge who hit a solo home run (7-0), which started a 5-hit in a row streak which included a Cody Bellinger single, Giancarlo Stanton single, Jazz Chisholm RBI double (8-0), and Paul Goldschmidt 2-RBI single (10-0).
After the Mariners escaped the inning, the Yankees went to Geoff Hartlieb for the top of the 8th inning, who immediately surrendered three straight hits (single, RBI double, 2-run home run) to allow the Mariners to get on the board (and give Cal Raleigh more breathing room in the MLB Home Run race). However, the Yankees were not in serious trouble. Quickly, Ian Hamilton came in to finish the inning, and after an uneventful bottom of the 8th, Scott Effross was called on to finish the game, which he did so easily.
The Yankees win, 10-3!
After staving off a sweep at the hands of the New York Mets, this is a very important series for the Yankees to rediscover themselves. And, last night they put their best foot forward to start moving in the right direction again.

Next Up - The Yankees will continue their series against the Seattle Mariners tonight, starting at 7:05 EDT...on Amazon Prime (which is an absolute shame, because...). The Mariners will be sending rookie pitcher Logan Evans (3-2, 2.96 ERA) to the mound, and the Yankees are matching that with a rookie pitcher of their own- set to make his MLB Debut- Cam Schlittler (2-1, 3.80 ERA in Triple-A). What a shame that Schlittler's MLB debut will be behind a paywall. With so much of the Yankees, it is 2 steps forward and 1 step back.

The medical and training staff performance this year, and previous years, is beyond atrocious. All need replaced.
Ooooh, so I can make a "run of Logans"-type joke again? Wheeeeeeeeee!
Diagnosis
To find out if you have a stress fracture, your doctor asks you about your health and does a physical exam. Often, imaging tests are needed too. They might include:
X-rays. Stress fractures often can't be seen on regular X-rays taken shortly after your pain starts. It can take weeks for signs of stress fractures to show on X-rays.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). An MRI uses radio waves and a strong magnetic field to make images of bones and soft tissues. This test is considered the best way to find stress fractures.
CT scan. This series of X-rays can make detailed images of the inside of the body. It can be useful when the results of an MRI aren't…
Nice win. Good hitting. Good D. Good pitching. But, this on-going medical staff ineffectiveness is out of hand. Maybe I missed them, but I can't recall a single similar incident with another team, yet we can all recite numerous instances with the Yanks staff.
Let's see what they have in Schlitter tonight, if you have amazon.
You're not the only one who has a problem staying awake during their games, trust me!
Everyone has called me crazy when I've kept harping on the YMG (Yankees Medical Group). Maybe, after what has been revealed within the last week, maybe I'm not so crazy after all.
Player of the game: The Rain delay. But as this is his 2nd time, the Yankees know Warren can handle going back out there to pitch after a rain delay. Good to know.
Oh yeah, waking up before 3:30am stinks!
